WWE Abandons “Vice City” Trademark Filing
WWE has quietly dropped its “Vice City” trademark application, with the filing being abandoned just as Rockstar updates its own GTA 6 trademark details to include the name.
WWE originally filed to trademark “Vice City” on August 4, 2026, shortly before Lola Vice joined the WWE main roster.
The original trademark application was filed under Class 41, covering wrestling performances, broadcasts, wrestling news, online content, fan club services and other entertainment activities. The name appears to be tied to Lola Vice, whose character has strong ties to Miami and has used “Vice City” as part of her branding.
The USPTO trademark record shows the application was filed by World Wrestling Entertainment, LLC under Serial No. 50031923 for the words “VICE CITY” in standard characters, meaning it was not tied to any specific logo, font or design.
Interestingly, WWE filed the trademark on an intent-to-use basis, meaning it said it planned to use the name in its business.
WWE Abandons the Trademark
The application did not last very long. On September 2, WWE submitted a request to expressly abandon the trademark.
The USPTO then issued its official Notice of Abandonment on September 21, confirming that the application had been abandoned and that no further action would be taken on it.
The filing does not say why WWE decided to drop it, so we don't really know what happened behind the scenes. Given the timing, though, it's hard not to wonder if GTA 6 had something to do with it.
The Grand Theft Auto Connection
Vice City has been part of the Grand Theft Auto franchise for a very long time. It was one of the original cities featured in the first GTA back in 1997, with the fictional city being based on Miami. It later became the setting of 2002's Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, followed by Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, and now it's returning once again as the main city in Grand Theft Auto VI.
Shortly after WWE filed its trademark, “Vice City” also appeared in the trademark information on the Xbox and PlayStation Store listings for Grand Theft Auto VI, as we reported on September 20.
It's worth pointing out that this was an update to the store listings themselves and not TakeTwo's trademark.
Are the Two Things Connected?
There’s nothing in the WWE filing that links the two, and Rockstar, TakeTwo or GTA are not mentioned anywhere in the documents.
Still, the timing is interesting. WWE drops the trademark, and “Vice City” shows up in GTA VI’s Xbox Store info. It definitely makes you wonder if there’s a connection.
