GTA 6 Physical Edition: Worldwide Download Code Region Compatibility Guide

Find out where GTA 6 physical edition download codes can be redeemed. Some regions allow codes to be used across multiple countries, while others are restricted to specific countries.

With the release of Grand Theft Auto VI approaching on November 19, 2026, players around the world are preparing to get their hands on Rockstar Games' highly anticipated title. However, anyone planning to purchase a physical copy, particularly from another country, should be aware of some important regional restrictions.

Unlike traditional physical game releases, the boxed edition of GTA 6 does not contain a disc. Instead, it includes a digital download code which must be redeemed through the PlayStation Store or Xbox Store.

For PlayStation 5 owners, these codes are region-restricted, meaning a copy purchased in one country may not necessarily be redeemable on an account registered elsewhere. Fortunately, certain countries share the same redemption region, allowing codes purchased in one country to be used in another.

GTA 6 Physical Edition: Worldwide Region Compatibility

Sony has published an official compatibility guide outlining the countries and regions in which GTA 6 physical edition download codes can be redeemed.

The following table shows the regional groups and which PlayStation accounts are compatible with codes purchased within each group.

Purchase Region Compatible PlayStation Account Countries
Australia & New Zealand Australia, New Zealand
United States & Canada United States, Canada
United Kingdom United Kingdom only
Europe (excluding UK & Germany) Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, India, Israel, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine
Germany Germany only*
Brazil Brazil only
Latin America (excluding Brazil) Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay
Japan Japan only
South Korea South Korea only
Rest of Asia Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia
Saudi Arabia Saudi Arabia only
United Arab Emirates United Arab Emirates only

*Sony describes German codes as intended for German PlayStation accounts. Players should not assume compatibility with other European accounts.

These regional groupings are based on Sony's official GTA VI Physical (Code-in-Box) Compatibility Guide.

What Does This Mean in Practice?

The restrictions are particularly important for players purchasing imported copies of GTA 6, receiving a code from somebody overseas, or buying a boxed edition while travelling.

For example:

  • Australia and New Zealand: A physical copy purchased in Australia can be redeemed on a New Zealand PlayStation account, and vice versa. Both countries share the same redemption region.
  • United States and Canada: A download code purchased in the United States can be redeemed on a Canadian PlayStation account, and vice versa.
  • France and Spain: A code purchased in France can be redeemed on a Spanish PlayStation account, as both countries belong to the same European redemption group.
  • United Kingdom and Ireland: Despite their geographical proximity, these countries belong to different redemption groups. A UK code cannot be redeemed on an Irish PlayStation account under the published restrictions.
  • United Kingdom and United States: A code purchased in the United States cannot be redeemed on a UK PlayStation account, or vice versa.
  • Japan and South Korea: Both countries have separate redemption regions, meaning codes purchased in one country cannot be redeemed on an account registered in the other.

Interestingly, the European redemption group also includes countries outside Europe, such as India, Israel and South Africa. This means, for example, a code purchased in France should also be compatible with an Indian PlayStation account.

It's important to understand that these restrictions relate to the country associated with your PlayStation account, rather than your physical location. Simply travelling to another country does not change the region of your existing account.

What About Xbox Series X|S?

Fortunately, the situation is much simpler for Xbox players.

According to Rockstar Games, GTA 6 download codes purchased for Xbox Series X|S are not region-locked.

This means Xbox players do not face the same published country-specific redemption restrictions as PlayStation owners, although standard platform account and redemption requirements still apply.

Does This Affect Digital Purchases?

No. These particular restrictions concern download codes supplied with physical retail copies of GTA 6, rather than games purchased directly through the PlayStation Store or Xbox Store.

When purchasing GTA 6 digitally through your console's storefront, the game is automatically associated with the account used to make the purchase. There is no separate download code to redeem.

Players purchasing the game directly from their usual digital storefront therefore do not need to worry about the physical edition's code compatibility table.

Can You Redeem a Code From Another Country to Play GTA 6 Early?

With GTA 6 launching at midnight local time on November 19, players may be wondering whether purchasing a code from another country could allow them to access the game earlier.

For example, Australia and New Zealand share the same PlayStation redemption region, meaning an Australian download code can be redeemed on a New Zealand PlayStation account.

How to Redeem Your GTA 6 Physical Download Code

Once you've received your physical copy of GTA 6, you can redeem the included download code directly through your console.

  1. Sign in to your PlayStation Network account.
  2. Open the PlayStation Store on your PS5.
  3. Select the menu and choose Redeem Code.
  4. Enter the 12-digit code included with your physical copy.
  5. Confirm the redemption to add GTA 6 to your game library.

GTA 6 pre-loading begins on November 10, 2026, with the game officially launching on November 19, 2026. Physical orders containing the code-in-box are not expected to ship until November 12, 2026.

Before purchasing an imported copy, we strongly recommend checking the country or region information printed on the packaging and ensuring it is compatible with your PlayStation account.
