Twitch CEO Says GTA 6 Multiplayer Will Launch in 2027
Twitch CEO Dan Clancy appears to have revealed that GTA 6's multiplayer experience will launch in 2027, following discussions between Twitch and Rockstar Games.
Speaking in a recent interview with Bloomberg, Clancy discussed the enormous impact GTA 6 is expected to have on Twitch when it launches on November 19, 2026. However, he suggested an even bigger boost will come the following year when Rockstar launches multiplayer.
“You are going to see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer.”
While Rockstar has yet to officially announce GTA 6's multiplayer component or give it a release date, Clancy's comments are particularly interesting because he also revealed that Twitch has been discussing Rockstar's plans with the company.
“We spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans, and also helping them think about how they can engage our creators.”
Bloomberg reportedly characterised the 2027 timeframe as something Clancy anticipates, as there's still no official announcement from Rockstar. However, his wording - combined with confirmation that Twitch has been speaking directly with Rockstar about its plans - makes the comment particularly noteworthy.
GTA 6 will launch as a single-player game
The comments come as Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick reiterated that GTA 6 will initially launch as a single-player title during the company's Annual Meeting of Stockholders.
“Just as a reminder, we have announced that we will be launching GTA VI on November 19th. It's a single-player title and it's being launched on Xbox and PS5.”
Zelnick also confirmed that the existing GTA Online will continue to be supported, describing it as a “robust business” for Take-Two.
“If the question is with regard to GTA V Online, that continues to be a robust business for us, and we will continue to support GTA V Online.”
Take-Two also said there will be no recurrent consumer spending associated with GTA 6 at launch, further reinforcing that the initial November release is completely focused on the single-player experience.
Taken together, the comments suggest Rockstar could launch GTA 6 in November 2026, continue supporting the existing GTA Online, and introduce its new multiplayer experience sometime in 2027. For now, however, Rockstar has not officially announced a name, release date or other details for GTA 6's multiplayer component.
