REVEALED: Rockstar's "Welcome to Vice City" Kaseya Center Rooftop Sign Plans

We've been able to track down official Miami-Dade planning documents which provide a detailed look at the huge GTA 6 rooftop installation planned for Miami's Kaseya Center.

Newly uncovered Miami-Dade planning documents reveal how Rockstar Games' enormous GTA 6 "Welcome to Vice City" sign will be installed on the roof of Miami's Kaseya Center, including plans to lift large sections into place by helicopter.

The huge sign has recently been spotted under construction beside the arena, but final approved plans provide considerably more information about the project, its size and how it will eventually make its way onto the roof.

GTA 6 sign will be lifted onto the roof by helicopter

Perhaps the most interesting detail is that the installation has specifically been designed around a series of helicopter lifts.

Engineering drawings show large sections of the structure being assembled before they are lifted onto the Kaseya Center roof, with the letters and their flex faces attached prior to the lift.

At least two of the planned helicopter lifts are listed at approximately 4,200 lbs (1,905 kg) and 4,950 lbs (2,245 kg) respectively.

Custom rigging brackets will be used to carry the sections, with structural beams lifted alongside the new signage before being clamped to the arena's existing steel framework. The temporary rigging equipment will then be removed after installation.

This also helps explain why such large sections of the sign are currently being assembled on the ground beside the Kaseya Center rather than being constructed entirely on the roof.

Sign covers almost 4,700 square feet

The finished design consists of a large "WELCOME TO" sign above the familiar pink and white "Vice City" script, alongside the GTA VI logo.

According to the approved plans, the individual elements cover:

  • Welcome To: 443 square feet
  • Vice City: 4,017 square feet
  • VI logo: 230 square feet

Together, the GTA 6 branding covers approximately 4,690 square feet. The project will also require around 21,000 lbs (9,525 kg) of new structural steel to support the installation.

The new structure will make use of the Kaseya Center's existing rooftop sign framework, while adding numerous new steel beams and supports to accommodate Rockstar's design.

Part of a wider GTA 6 promotion across Miami

A separate Letter of Intent submitted as part of the planning process provides some additional insight into Rockstar's plans for the Kaseya Center and the wider GTA 6 marketing campaign.

The document describes Rockstar Games as a "major Arena sponsor" and says Rockstar merchandise will be available for sale at the Kaseya Center alongside other promotions.

"The proposed copy is an onsite sign that will promote Rockstar Games, which is a major Arena sponsor with merchandise that will be available for sale at the Arena, among other promotions."

More interestingly, the application describes the project as part of a "County-wide promotion" surrounding the release of a video game featuring Miami and Miami-Dade County.

"The copy is part of a County-wide promotion for the release of a popular video game that features the City of Miami and Miami-Dade County."

The GTA 6 sign could remain for up to two years

The Letter of Intent also reveals that the GTA 6 artwork is intended to serve as the featured copy on the Kaseya Center roof sign for a maximum of two years, meaning the huge Vice City branding may remain in place well beyond the game's initial launch campaign.

Unlike the dynamic digital illumination previously approved for the arena's roof signage, Rockstar's design will use static illumination.

The documents do not provide a specific date for the helicopter installation, but with large sections of the sign now visibly being assembled beside the Kaseya Center, preparations for one of Rockstar's biggest real-world GTA 6 advertisements are clearly well underway.
