Xbox Denies Exclusive GTA VI Streaming Rights After The Verge Report
Xbox Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball has responded to The Verge's report on GTA VI streaming rights, saying the game "will not be streaming exclusively or to PC."
The Verge reported that Xbox CEO Asha Sharma told staff in an all-hands meeting that Xbox was planning something "no other platform holder is doing" around GTA VI. The Verge read that as exclusive cloud streaming rights, which would let players stream the game on devices like PC through Xbox Cloud Gaming.
Xbox Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball says that isn't the case, blaming the excitement around GTA VI for some misreporting, and confirmed Xbox is looking forward to launching the game on November 19.
His wording leaves some room, though. He didn't say Xbox has no cloud streaming rights at all, only that the game won't be streaming exclusively or to PC. A console-only deal could still be possible, but nothing is confirmed.
Rockstar hasn't commented, announced any streaming partners, or announced a PC version.
