Jason Schreier: GTA Leaker is Still Unidentified

Jason Schreier reports via Bloomberg that Rockstar has not yet identified the leaker or determined how the latest GTA 6 breach happened.

Despite the leaks, Rockstar currently has no plans to move the Aug. 27 gameplay premiere or make any other immediate changes to its marketing strategy. Internally, however, Schreier says it’s “all hands on deck” as the company tries to determine the source of the breach and identify those responsible.

Rockstar leaders and many employees are reportedly angry about the situation, with some staff feeling frustrated and exhausted - particularly because of the security measures introduced following the major 2022 leak.

Those measures included ending remote work and bringing developers back into the office five days a week, in part to improve security and prevent GTA 6 builds and development tools from being accessed remotely.

“For some at Rockstar, it’s particularly frustrating that despite these security measures, this has happened again.”

Schreier also reports that one of GTA 6’s top executives sent an email to staff this week denouncing the leaker and attempting to boost morale, promising that the incident wouldn’t detract from the excellent work the team has done.
