GTA 6 Side Activities Detailed: Gyms, Fishing, Basketball, Hunting, Racing and More

GTA 6 looks set to offer a much deeper selection of side activities than GTA 5, with content creator TGG revealing new details about everything from working out at gyms and playing basketball to fishing, hunting, scuba diving and collecting cars.

The information comes from TGG's latest breakdown following his visit to Rockstar North, where he watched Rockstar Games' Head of Development and Rockstar North Co-Studio Head Rob Nelson play GTA 6 for around two-and-a-half hours.

According to TGG, the range of activities available reminded him more of GTA: San Andreas than GTA 5, with many activities also feeding into GTA 6's wider character progression systems.

Rather than simply existing as standalone minigames, activities can potentially improve Jason and Lucia's stats, change their physical appearance and even affect their relationship.

Gyms and Workouts

Gyms appear to be considerably more detailed than the system last seen in GTA: San Andreas.

During TGG's demonstration, Rob Nelson noticed that Jason and Lucia's health and stamina stats were relatively low and decided to take both characters to a gym. Taking them together also effectively turned the workout into an impromptu date, contributing to their relationship at the same time.

Neither character was already a member of the gym, meaning both Jason and Lucia first had to purchase memberships from the front desk.

Lucia then went into the changing rooms, where TGG saw a vending machine selling protein or energy drinks which could provide a stamina boost before exercising. TGG says another creator who visited Rockstar also saw an option allowing characters to change into gym clothing.

Several different exercises and pieces of equipment were available. During TGG's demonstration, Jason performed lat pulldowns while Lucia used the bench press, while TGG also remembers seeing treadmills, punching bags and squats among the available options.

Players won't necessarily need to spend a huge amount of time working out each day. According to TGG, completing three exercises is enough to finish a daily workout.

Different types of exercise will also improve different attributes. Strength exercises can increase health, while cardio improves stamina.

Weight and Muscle

GTA 6 will once again allow the physical appearance of its protagonists to change depending on how players treat them.

Eating too much can cause Jason and Lucia to gain weight, although TGG says players will need to eat a reasonably large amount before seeing a significant effect.

Muscle gained through exercise will also need to be maintained. If players build up a muscular character and subsequently stop working out, they can gradually lose that muscle.

This gives GTA 6 a character management system somewhat reminiscent of GTA: San Andreas, where CJ's weight and muscle could change according to the player's diet and exercise.

Fishing

Fishing will be another fully playable activity, with TGG describing the mechanics as being similarly detailed to fishing in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Unlike Red Dead Redemption 2, however, players apparently won't be able to keep the fish they catch. Fishing instead operates on a catch-and-release basis.

TGG says fishing can be used simply for recreation, but will also be connected to narrative content, collectibles and challenges. There is currently no clear information to confirm whether players can earn money by fishing.

Hunting

Hunting will also return, although its purpose appears to be different from Red Dead Redemption 2's extensive hunting and crafting systems.

According to TGG, hunting in GTA 6 will primarily be a way of making money and will be introduced through a character Jason knows.

Exactly what players will be hunting, how animals are sold or delivered and whether there are additional rewards connected to hunting remain unclear.

Sleep and Character Condition

GTA 6 keeps track of how well rested Jason and Lucia are, adding another layer to the game's character management systems.

TGG believes players will be able to check their sleep through a fitness application on the in-game phone, which can indicate whether a character is well rested.

Sleep can affect the regeneration of certain attributes, meaning repeatedly avoiding sleep could have some gameplay consequences.

This also appears to have a visual effect. Kinda Funny previously revealed that Jason and Lucia can develop bags beneath their eyes after going several days without sleeping.

Together with weight, muscle and exercise, it appears Rockstar wants players to have considerably more influence over the condition and appearance of GTA 6's protagonists than they did with GTA 5's Michael, Franklin and Trevor.

Basketball

Basketball is playable in GTA 6, although TGG cautioned players not to expect anything approaching the complexity of Rockstar parent company Take-Two's NBA 2K series.

The activity nevertheless requires some player skill, with players manually aiming and timing their shots rather than simply triggering a predetermined animation.

Playing basketball and successfully making shots can also improve the character's Focus attribute, giving the activity a gameplay benefit outside of the basketball court.

Pool

Pool will return as a playable activity in GTA 6.

The activity previously appeared prominently in GTA: San Andreas and GTA 4, but was absent from GTA 5's selection of playable activities.

Mini-Golf and Golf

Mini-golf is confirmed to be playable in GTA 6.

Whether traditional golf will return is less certain. TGG noted that the GTA 6 community mapping project has identified what appears to be a golf course located on an island off the coast of Vice City, leading him to believe that full golf will probably be available in the finished game.

He also speculated that golf could potentially improve the Focus attribute in a similar way to basketball, although this has not been confirmed.

Tennis

Tennis courts can be found around GTA 6's world, although TGG stressed that Rockstar has not confirmed whether tennis itself is a playable activity.

Given its inclusion in GTA 5 and the presence of courts throughout Leonida, TGG believes it is likely to return, but for now this remains speculation.

Wrestling and Fighting

The Extended Look already revealed several different forms of fighting entertainment around Leonida, including backyard wrestling and Lucia fighting inside a cage.

TGG isn't sure whether these represent separate activities or different variations of the same broader fighting activity.

It is also currently unclear whether participating in these fights will affect Jason or Lucia's physical stats.

Base Jumping and Parachuting

Parachuting is clearly possible in GTA 6, with the Extended Look showing Lucia jumping from a skyscraper before deploying a parachute above Vice City.

What remains unclear is whether GTA 6 will feature dedicated parachuting challenges similar to those found throughout GTA 5, or whether players will simply be able to use parachutes freely around the world.

Shooting Ranges

GTA 6 will feature shooting ranges, although they appear to be considerably more elaborate than the traditional indoor ranges seen in previous GTA games.

Footage from the Extended Look showed an outdoor tactical-style shooting course where the player could move between different positions while engaging targets.

TGG believes completing shooting range activities could improve the Focus attribute, although he presented this as his own expectation rather than a confirmed detail.

Scuba Diving and Swimming

Players will be able to explore beneath the waters surrounding Leonida using scuba diving equipment.

GTA 6 features an oxygen meter while underwater and considerably more aquatic wildlife, potentially making underwater exploration a more substantial part of the game.

Swimming also has its own Lung Capacity attribute, suggesting players will be able to improve how long Jason and Lucia can remain underwater without scuba equipment.

Kayaking

Kayaking is another recreational activity available throughout Leonida.

The activity has already appeared in official GTA 6 footage and gives players another way of exploring the state's extensive rivers, wetlands and coastal areas.

Collect Car Parts to Build New Vehicles

One of GTA 6's more unusual side activities involves searching Leonida for individual car parts.

According to TGG, players can find these parts around the world and bring them back to a character named Wyman, who is associated with the activity.

Collecting the necessary components will eventually allow Wyman to assemble them into an actual working vehicle which the player can keep and drive.

This effectively turns exploration into a vehicle collection activity, providing an additional incentive to search less-travelled parts of the map.

It should be noted that Rockstar has separately advertised a Classic Car Collection as part of the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition, although it isn't yet clear exactly how that bonus relates to the car-building activity described by TGG.

Several Different Types of Racing

Racing will seemingly be one of GTA 6's more extensive categories of side content, with several different types of events available around Leonida.

TGG described traditional street racing alongside organised circuit racing and off-road events.

There are also races reminiscent of Rockstar's Midnight Club series, including vehicles equipped with nitrous.

Given Leonida's huge amount of water and the numerous boats and personal watercraft already shown by Rockstar, TGG also expects water-based racing to be available, although this was not presented as confirmed.

Making Your Own Fun Around Leonida

Beyond structured activities and minigames, TGG stressed that much of GTA 6's appeal will simply come from interacting with its world.

Players can visit nightclubs, explore locations such as the zoo or simply remain at home and watch television, alongside the many other locations and activities scattered throughout Vice City and the wider state of Leonida.

Combined with the deeper character systems, TGG came away with the impression that GTA 6 is moving back towards the variety associated with GTA: San Andreas while taking those ideas considerably further.

Activities aren't simply distractions from the main story: working out can improve health or stamina, basketball can improve Focus, eating and exercise can alter a character's body, sleep can affect regeneration and activities involving both protagonists can potentially strengthen Jason and Lucia's relationship.

As with TGG's previous GTA 6 videos, it's worth remembering that many of these details are being recalled from his visit to Rockstar North rather than coming directly from Rockstar's published materials. Some elements could also change before GTA 6 is released on November 19.
