Console Sales Soar Thanks To GTA VI: An Extended Look

UK PS5 sales rose 33% with Xbox Series S and X up 34% in the week following the GTA IV: An Extended Look.

One week on from the GTA VI Netflix special, new figures from Nielsen, reported by The Game Business show, show a sharp jump in console sales.

Christopher Dring from The Game Business reported on the numbers after having done the rounds on multiple mainstream media channels such as the BBC and CNBC.

Early data from Nielsen IQ who have been tracking console sales for decades show that early signs from the UK market indicate that the Netflix special had a very positive result for console sales.

PS5 Sales shot up 33% whilst Xbox Series X and S console sales rose an amazing 34%.

Nintendo Switch 2 sales rose dramatically but this is believed to be a rush to get consoles before a price rise that came into effect on the 1st of September. 

This is welcome news for a console market that has been struggling, with The Game Business reporting that the US has just had its worst July for console sales since 2020 which was caused due supply shortages.
